Veteran actor Ashok Saraf recently took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, recalling his time on the sets of the iconic 1995 Bollywood film Karan Arjun. The Rakesh Roshan directorial, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in the lead roles, also featured Kajol, Mamta Kulkarni, and Johny Lever. Saraf, who played a supporting role in the film, shared humorous anecdotes during a conversation with Radio Nasha.

Sharing his experience with the superstar duo, Saraf said, “Yes, yes. I never used to go wherever this was happening. Kisi ko sataana ho toh main door hu (If someone had to be troubled, I kept my distance). But yes, both of them used to have a lot of fun.”
The actor also spoke about Johny Lever’s presence on set and how things would get even more lively. “Aur unke saath mein Johny Lever bhi mil jaata tha. Uske saath main bhi fir, masti nahi karta tha par hota tha (And when Johny Lever joined them, even though I wouldn’t actively join the mischief, it used to happen anyway),” he admitted with a laugh.
Saraf fondly recalled how the trio — himself, Salman, and occasionally Johny — would land in trouble for their antics. One such moment involved a scolding from Rakesh Roshan’s wife, Pinkie Roshan. “Pinkie ji scolded me a lot. ‘You are troubling Guddu (Rakesh) a lot. I didn’t expect it from you.’ Because, between Salman and me, I was slightly better behaved; at least on the face of it. I was like, ‘I didn’t do anything. It’s all his (Salman) doing.’ We were two young kids, really troubling a father figure, to be honest.”
Saraf’s lighthearted revelations offer fans a rare glimpse into the off-camera camaraderie shared by the actors during one of the most beloved Bollywood films of the 90s. Karan Arjun not only became a box office hit but also established the SRK-Salman pairing as iconic, with its memorable dialogues, emotional depth, and action-packed storytelling.
These candid confessions from Saraf once again remind fans that some of the most timeless Bollywood films were born out of genuine friendships and unforgettable fun behind the scenes.
