In Bollywood, Anupam Kher is one of the most respected actors. He has won several hearts with his acting skills and grounded personality. He has appeared in films like DDLJ, The Accidental Prime Minister, Metro… In Dino, and most recently, Tanvi The Great. Apart from acting, he is also a motivational speaker. But despite all of this, he still lives in a rented house. Read on to know why.
Why does Anupam Kher live in a rented flat?
In a time where celebrities flaunt their luxury, Anupam Kher’s choice stands out. During a recent appearance on a podcast, The Powerful Humans, he shared his thoughts on why he doesn’t want to buy a property, because he wants his family to live peacefully after he is gone. In his words:
“Once a person is gone, or has passed away, there is a chance that some disputes might arise regarding the property he has left behind. There is less conflict involved with distributing money. I have seen and talked to aged people, and their stories are harrowing.”
He also mentioned that he has heard heartbreaking stories of elderly people being thrown out or have been pressured to transfer property. Anupam Kher very firmly said that he doesn’t want all of this in his house. He said:
“Someone has been thrown out by their son; someone is being coerced to sign over their property. These kinds of things and conversations don’t happen in my house.”
Anupam Kher is the stepfather of Sikandar
In the same podcast, Anupam Kher spoke about the way he lives with his stepson, Sikandar. He shared that he doesn’t believe in controlling him a lot, he feels a certain amount of freedom should be given to children, so that they learn from it. He shared:
“Sikandar is my stepson. Kids of today don’t ask their fathers for permission before doing anything. I don’t play the role of a father in my real life; that’s fine for the movies. I don’t go up to Sikandar and tell him how he should handle his business. Kids don’t learn in this manner, and my father never told me what to do. Parents should give their kids a certain amount of freedom so that they learn from their own mistakes.”
