Just a month after the release of Resident Alien season 4, fans have received upsetting news that the show will not return for another season. It means that the comedy-drama, which has made a special place in the hearts of fans since 2021 for its unique blend of sci-fi and a heartfelt plot, will come to an end with the premiere of season 4’s finale in August 2025. As per TV Insider, showrunner, Chris Sheridan confirmed that he was already aware that season 4 was their last season.
Although the news has been utterly disappointing, he has assured fans that there will be a satisfying ending to the show with a cracked door, leaving a chance for the show to return in future. While fans are emotional, it has brought the focus on the Resident Alien 4‘s lead actor, Alan Tudyk, whose complex portrayal of an alien-turned-doctor, ‘Harry Vanderspeigle’, became the show’s soul. However, off-screen, it was his wife, Charissa Barton, who played a quiet yet vital role in supporting him for his strong performance on the show.
Who is Alan Tudyk’s wife, Charissa Barton?
Charissa Barton is no stranger to creativity and working in the entertainment industry. She is a dancer, choreographer and creative consultant who has worked for 25 years in showbiz. Charissa earned a name for herself by performing at globally-renowned places like the Sydney Opera House and Kennedy Centre. At the same time, she has choreographed performances for A-listers like Katy Perry for an iconic Grammy Performance. Moreover, Charissa was the force behind John Cena’s popular opening sequence in Peacemaker.
Charissa Barton’s creative instinct can be traced back to her family of performers. Even her sisters, Cherice and Aszure, are trained in ballet, jazz, theatre and acting like Charissa. Initially, the latter had an interest in Ballet, but soon realised that it was not for her. Talking about her journey in an interview, Charissa said:
“I went to The Juilliard School, which proved to be exactly what I needed. From there, I joined Parsons Dance and toured for a few years; I felt incredibly lucky to be able to travel the world doing what I love. At that time, Cherice and Aszure were both in New York, and I performed in some of Aszure’s choreographic projects.”
Alan Tudyk and Charissa Barton had a private wedding in 2016
Despite Alan Tudyk’s fame, the media and fans have no clue about how his romance with Charissa Barton began. But the duo confirmed their wedding through a fun banter on X (formerly Twitter) where he asked for tips for his marriage and his then would-be-wife, Charissa, penned, “Get married at the same time that I do, same venue, same altar.” According to People, the couple tied the knot in 2016 at a beautiful ceremony at The Paramour Estate in Los Angeles. Alan looked handsome in an Armani Tux while Charissa wore a Vera Wang wedding gown. They are parents to a daughter, but details about her have been kept away from the media.

The dancer had once had a wonderful opportunity to work with her husband when she choreographed the title sequence of Peacemaker. Later, in an interview with EW, Charissa revealed that the creator, James Gunn, gave her complete creative freedom, and she began to experiment with a lot of ideas for the work. Since she was still exploring her options, her husband, Alan, stepped in as a stand-in to test if her dance moves were suitable for actors who were not familiar with dancing. Sharing her experience of working with Alan, she said:
“He made himself available to me to test out some things, and he was a very willing participant. And then I worked with professional dancers to help solidify what the sequences were and taught the actors, and then shot it.”
Alan Tudyk credits his wife, Charissa Barton, for his directorial stint in Resident Alien 4
Alan Tudyk, who has been playing the lead on Resident Alien, stepped into the director’s shoes for season 4’s first two episodes, Prisoners and The Lonely Man. Talking to USA Insider about his experience, the actor credited his wife for supporting him and being with him in his new stride. Describing how there were “two Tudyks’ on the set, he said:
“Technically, she’s my assistant, I guess, which is the official name for her. But she’s a director. She’s directed more than me, so she was on set to watch. When I was acting [she was] able to tell me, ‘Yeah, that was a swing and a miss.’ It was really great. We really enjoyed it.”
