Kishore Kumar’s joy turned to shock before his son, Amit Kumar’s wedding
In a recent interview with Radio Nasha, Amit Kumar revealed his father, Kishore Kumar was overjoyed in 1981 as he was all set to marry a girl from Kolkata. It was supposed to be a grand celebration, with the entire Bollywood industry invited. However, just ten days before the wedding, the family received a shocking news that changed everything.
According to Amit Kumar, the wedding was an arranged marriage, and the girl’s family were among the well-known folks in Kolkata. Everything was already in place; the wedding cards had been printed, and the celebrations had begun. But a startling truth emerged and stopped the celebration. Ten days before the marriage, the Kumar family discovered that the bride-to-be was already married. Amit said:
“The thing was, that this woman was already married. We got to know about this just ten days before the wedding, the cards were already printed.”
Kishore Kumar’s dreams after his son, Amit Kumar’s wedding were shattered
Kishore Kumar had reportedly made plans to relocate after Amit’s wedding. He intended to move back to his hometown Khandwa and live a peaceful life. He believed that once his son was settled, he could finally rest. But the suddenly cancelled wedding had left him deeply hurt and emotionally drained. Amit said:
“Dad said, ‘Do whatever you want to do, after that you are getting married. You will get settled. I will move to Khandwa and you guys come and visit me’.”
Kishore Kumar’s last effort to get Amit Kumar married ended in a tragedy
Amit Kumar recalled that Kishore was deeply hurt with the turn of events surrounding his wedding. On January 24, 1981, the supposed date of the wedding, Kishore Kumar insisted on flying to Kolkata to find another bride for his son. Despite Amit’s protests, Kishore was determined. However, tragedy struck soon after his flight landed. Kishore suffered a heart attack and had to be rushed to the hospital immediately.

In the same interview, Amit Kumar revisited the painful incident of his father suffering from a heart attack. He described how his father’s health began to decline after the wedding fiasco. Kishore, known for his lively voice and charismatic persona, could not cope with the emotional blow the betrayal had left. He suffered from a heart attack because of it all and this incident marked the beginning of his health struggles in the 1980s.
