Democrats are calling for the release of Jeffrey Epstein‘s files following reports that Donald Trump is mentioned in the documents and received prior confirmation about it.The justice department found Donald Trump’s name mentioned several times in documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, attorney general Pam Bondi told the US president earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal reported. The mention, according to officials, is not necessarily linked to any wrongdoing. However, the revelation has sparked a wave of intense reaction from Democratic leaders, who are now demanding full transparency. Pam Bondi and her deputy Todd Blanche told Trump in a White House meeting in May that his name came up repeatedly in the Epstein files, alongside other high-profile individuals. The department maintained that these documents mostly contain unverified hearsay and have not warranted further investigation or prosecution. But that hasn’t eased concerns across the political aisle. “I, for one, am shocked,” said Minnesota governor Tim Walz, reacting to the news. “Release the files,” demanded former house speaker Nancy Pelosi, joining a queue of Democrats calling for accountability. California congressman Eric Swalwell, a frequent Trump critic, went further, “So we just found out the White House buried the Epstein files because they had two things in them: 1) Donald Trump’s name and 2) child pornography. This is why we want the files. To see who knew what & who did what. I don’t care what party you’re in, we follow the facts. Without fear or favour.” Representative Marc Veasey of Texas supported the sentiment, writing, “Where there is smoke, there’s fire. And there is a lot of smoke. Release the Epstein files.” The pressure comes in the wake of a Wall Street Journal report that claimed Trump had been briefed about his name appearing in the Epstein materials. The White House has responded strongly, with communications director Steven Cheung telling CNBC, “The fact is that the President kicked [Epstein] out of his [Mar-a-Lago] club for being a creep.” He dismissed the WSJ’s story as “a continuation of the fake news stories concocted by the Democrats and the liberal media.”
