Jeff Daniels is getting vocal about what he feels America has lost as a nation since having President Donald Trump back in the White House.
The Emmy-winning actor, who has always been open about his political stance, recently appeared on MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace‘s The Best People podcast, where he blasted not only the controversial president, whom he called a “snake oil salesman,” but also those who voted for him in November.
“We’ve lost decency, we’ve lost civility, we’ve lost respect for the rule of law — lost it,” Daniels said. “We have normalized verbal abuse on the internet. We’ve normalized bullying; much as the woke generation tried to, you know, change that, it’s back. Out the window goes character, integrity.”
The Dumb and Dumber actor continued, “I mean, nobody has great things to say about politicians. They never have. Go back to Mark Twain. But ideally, we’re supposed to elect the best of us. Not the worst of us. He’s everything that’s wrong with not just America but with being a human being.”
As for those who supported Trump’s reelection campaign in the 2024 presidential election, Daniels told them, “I hope you’re losing tons of money, those of you who thought this would be OK. My question is, what are you guys going to do about it?”
During Trump’s campaign, he made several promises that he has yet to keep, including lowering the price of groceries, which has been a major topic for households across the nation and one of the reasons why some people voted for him. However, Wallace noted that the president’s current policies are actually going to hurt his supporters, rather than help them.
“I think, at the end of the day, that’s what’s going to do it,’” Daniels said in response. “‘Wait a minute, the grocery bill is what? $180 more? I can’t get that car that we have to have unless I pay another $8,000. What? Who do I blame for that? Who do I see about that?’ One person.”
The Newsroom actor added, “At the end of the day, it would be about just the price of eggs, did it go up or down, because that’s what he told me he was going to lower the price of eggs or my grocery bill. I think that still matters, at least out in the middle of the country, that matters. The money matters.”
Elsewhere in the podcast, Daniels said he still imagines what America would have looked like if Kamala Harris won in November, adding, “She would’ve been a good choice. I don’t care what they say. Because she would have done what [former President Abraham] Lincoln did.”
He noted that Lincoln “surrounded himself with the people who would disagree with him, not the people who would take a knee and go, ‘Yeah, more tariffs, sir, more.’ It’s the madness of King George and just the deterioration of the Republican Party.”
