Apart from Criminal Justice: A Family Matter, actress Barkha Singh was also seen recently in Amazon MX Player’s youth-oriented show Lafangey, which also starred Gagan Arora, Anud Singh Dhaka, Harsh Beniwal and Saloni Gaur. Before this project, Barkha was supposed to work with its director Prem Mistry in another show but that didn’t work out at the last minute, which disappointed her.
EXCLUSIVE: Barkha Singh on her career desire: “If I get a role of a spy, I can show my action skills”
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Barkha said, “It was my zidd that I will surely work with this director. So, when I got a call for the audition (for Lafangey), I said, ‘I am giving this audition but I am doing this role’. I said if they don’t like this audition, I will keep on giving more auditions but I want to do this role (laughs).”
Working on Lafangey was smooth for her as she knows Gagan, Anud and Harsh for, at least, 10 years. “Harsh not very much as he stays in Delhi,” she said. “It was a different kind of a fun working with them. A lot of funny incidents used to happen on the sets. But the shoot was tough. The shoot for Criminal Justice used to get over on time, but not Lafangey. Poora Lafanga bana rakha tha humko (laughs).”
Barkha said that her character Ishita had a different look as she was from the middle-class. This also made her relate with the character. “She is someone who is making her efforts to climb the ladder of success. She is even trying to get her boyfriend (Arora) go ahead in life. Everyone from my family is either from the Army or Navy; both from papa and mummy’s sides. Nobody is from this field door door tak. I related to the struggle.”
Hence, Barkha said that she wasn’t acting in a lot of scenes. “For example, when I say, ‘Main compromise karke neeche nahin aaungi, tu mehnat karke oopar aayega’, I was not acting.”
Sharing her goal as an actress, she said, “I want to be a dream of every filmmaker. I really hope someday there will be Neeraj Pandey sir who would be like, ‘You know, yeh Barkha achhi actor hai, ispe koi film likhte hain’. I want that people see my work and be excited to work with me.”
When asked about her dream role, Barkha was quick to say, “I really hope I get the role of a spy. I come from a military family and I have been watching spy movies since I was a kid. If I get a role like Raazi, I will be the happiest person.”
Elaborating further, she said, “I know how to perform fight scenes. But one doesn’t feel that after looking at me. I want to break that mould because I know kickboxing, etc. So, if I get the role of a spy, I can show these skills. I would enjoy doing that.”
Sharing about her upcoming projects, Barkha said, “I am reading a few scripts as I have got offers after these two releases, for which I am very happy about. I have already shot one show but it hasn’t been announced. I hope it comes soon because you will see me in a very different light in that. It’s a very serious show.”
