Actor Rajkummar Rao, known for his packed schedule, continues to stay busy with consecutive shooting commitments. According to sources, the actor is set to begin filming later this month for a high-voltage courtroom drama inspired by the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Rajkummar Rao to lead Ujjwal Nikam biopic, to go on floors in last quarter of 2025: Report
Rajkummar Rao is set to portray renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam in an upcoming biopic, which is scheduled to begin filming in the last quarter of 2025 with a start-to-finish schedule, according to a report by Pinkvilla.
“The prep-work for Ujjwal Nikam biopic is presently underway, and Rajkummar Rao is expected to undergo intense acting workshops to step into the shoes of a real-life lawyer. Several names were considered for the film, but eventually, Avinash felt that no one fits the bill like Rajkummar Rao,” revealed a source close to the development to the publication.
“It is a tribute to one of the greatest public prosecutors of India. Avinash Arun, Dinesh Vijan, and Rajkummar Rao are all excited to bring it to the spectacle. The film will retell few of the biggest courtroom battles on the big screen,” the source added.
Initially, there was speculation that Aamir Khan would take on the role. However, due to prior work commitments, the actor opted out of the project. Sources close to the development revealed that Rajkummar Rao came on board following Aamir Khan’s exit.
Rather than chronicling Nikam’s entire life or legal career, the film will zoom in on a specific and defining chapter — his pivotal role in the high-profile trial following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The project aims to capture the intense courtroom drama and legal battle for justice that followed the 2008 attacks.
Though inspired by real events and centred on a real-life legal icon, the film will not follow the traditional biopic format. Instead, it will focus on a specific chapter from Nikam’s career—his pivotal role in the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist from the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Maddock Films has clarified that the story will spotlight the intense courtroom battle and the legal pursuit of justice following the 2008 attacks, rather than covering Nikam’s entire life or career.
