India were scared: Harry Brook reveals why England hold advantage ahead of 4th Test

England batter Harry Brook believes India may be showing signs of hesitation in the ongoing Test series, particularly when it comes to setting challenging targets. With the five-match series currently standing at 2-1 in favour of England, Brook’s comments come just ahead of the fourth Test in Manchester, set to begin on Wednesday, July 23.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Brook pointed to India’s tactics in previous matches, suggesting their reluctance to allow England to chase played directly into the home side’s hands.

“We saw them set a ridiculous total for us at Edgbaston. They were a little bit scared of setting us a total that we could potentially get. So that played into our favour and gave us a lot of confidence as well, going into other games going forward,” he said.

Brook was full of praise for England’s performances in the series so far, particularly their successful run chase at Headingley and their hard-fought win at Lord’s, where they secured the final wicket after an extended battle late on Day 5.

“Chasing that total at Headingley was an unbelievable win as well. And then obviously last time, the fight and determination we showed to get that last wicket, and the skills and patience that Stokes showed as well throughout that period where we couldn’t quite find a wicket, it was awesome to watch. I’m sure it kept everybody on the edge of their seat,” he added.

Brook has been a key contributor to England’s efforts so far in the series. With 314 runs to his name at an average of 52.33, including a century, he will be looking to continue his form and help seal the series in Manchester.

India, however, despite struggling with injuries and player availability, remains a threat. Their ability to bounce back under pressure has been seen before, and they will be eager to level the series and take the contest into a decider at The Oval.
