Anne Hathaway Slides Into Character on ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Set With Chanel Quilted Sandals

Anne Hathaway returned to “The Devil Wears Prada” universe in shoes Miranda Priestly would have never dared: flat, quilted Chanel sandals with soft velvet straps and molded comfort soles. Filming the long-anticipated movie sequel in Manhattan on Monday, the Oscar winner wore the house’s signature quilting not under her arm, but on her feet.

The sandals feature twin black velvet straps with classic diamond stitching, a tonal slingback and gold double-C hardware at the outer side. A structured rubber sole and ergonomic footbed complete the silhouette, offering subtle lift and all-day function. The design pulls from house iconography but lands firmly in real-world luxury not exactly made for the “Runway” closet, but not far from it either.

While her character Andy Sachs once tripped through the halls of Elias-Clark in pointed Jimmy Choos, Hathaway’s updated Andy walks steady in velvet Chanel. The shift mirrors the actor’s own fashion arc: after years of red carpets and runway appearances, she’s become known for pairing heritage labels with grounded silhouettes, often styled by Erin Walsh. Patricia Field — the original film’s costume designer and the force behind “Sex and the City” and “Ugly Betty” — returns for the sequel.

The sandals were styled with a dark denim maxi skirt, a white sleeveless tank and a long black vest worn open over the shoulders. A pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses and a script binder in hand made the look equal parts costume and commentary — a nod to Andrea Sachs’ fashion evolution from outsider to insider.

Chanel’s quilted footwear has also been spotted on other public figures. Jessica Biel recently wore the brand’s quilted loafers to her wine launch, and Queen Rania stepped out in quilted Prada platforms during wedding festivities in Venice. Like those iterations, Hathaway’s slides prioritize texture and legacy branding without leaning into trend churn.

The “Devil Wears Prada 2” officially began filming this week, nearly 20 years after the original made fashion interns everywhere fear blue sweaters. Plot details remain under wraps, but Hathaway’s sandals suggest at least one thing: Andy Sachs has grown up — and learned how to walk across Manhattan without needing blister pads.
