Nishu Khan, elder brother of Tauseef Badshah – the prime accused in Bihar gangster Chandan Mishra’s murder case – said on Sunday that the latter told him about the crime after he committed it. Nishu Khan said that he was so shocked after learning about the murder that his “mind stopped working” and he asked his younger brother to surrender.
Mishra, who was out on parole for medical treatment, was shot dead inside a private hospital in Patna on Thursday after five assailants barged in and fired multiple rounds at him. The victim, an accused in a murder case in Buxar district, had been released from Beur Jail on medical parole and was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
“My brother Tauseef informed me after he committed this crime. My mind stopped working after I learned this. I don’t know the purpose of this murder. I didn’t even ask him about it. I asked him to surrender as well. He assured me that he was going to surrender on Monday,” Khan was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
As many as eight accused, including Tauseef Badshah, and his aides Nilesh, Monu, Balwant and Abhishek, have been arrested in connection with the murder, which raised further questions about the prevailing law-and-order situation in Bihar months ahead of state polls.
Nishu Khan was taken into custody for allegedly helping the shooters before and after the murder. He is a resident of Samanpura in Patna, an area close to Paras Hospital where the killing took place. He said that Tauseef had been previously arrested in cases related to the Arms Act as well.
Chandan Mishra’s murder inside a public place as secured as a hospital has triggered sharp political reactions, with the opposition accusing the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government of failing to curb rising crime in the state.
On Saturday, Bihar Police, with help from West Bengal Police, arrested five suspects from New Town near Kolkata. They were found hiding in a flat in a housing complex. While four of them are believed to be directly involved in the killing, the fifth person’s role is still being investigated.
