The UFC lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier, known as ‘The Diamond’, is all set to play his last match after his trilogy fight against Max Holloway at UFC 318, New Orleans. As he preps up for his final bout, his wife, Jolie Poirier, is ready to cheer the loudest for him. For the unversed, Jolie has been supporting Dustin even before they started dating. Read on to know more about her.

Dustin Poirier’s wife, Jolie Poirier, has been together since middle school

Many fans followed Dustin’s professional life and were always in awe of his wife, Jolie, who stood with him as a pillar of his strength throughout his UFC career. However, not many know that they have been together since middle school. In an earlier interview with UFC.com, Poirier revealed that at the age of 10, he had knocked out a 15-year-old’s tooth during a fight. Years later, he landed himself in juvenile detention due to legal issues.

Dustin Poirier’s wife wrote letters to him when he was in juvenile detention

Dustin shared the story of how he decided to marry Jolie in one of the episodes of his Outta Pocket Podcast. He shared that Jolie was the only one besides his mother who wrote him letters. And when he got out of the Juvenile detention, she drove all the way to see him leave, and that’s when he thought he would marry her. He said:

“When I was in juvenile detention, and me and her might have not even been dating at that time, she was writing me letters every week. One of the only — besides my mother — the only letters I would get was her. And when I got out of juvenile detention, she was there. She drove all the way out, to watch me leave and stuff like that. And I was like, ‘I’m gonna marry this girl.'”

Dustin revealed that he doesn’t know how his wife got the address where he was serving the juvenile detention, but she did and never left. Dustin accepted that he wouldn’t have made it this far, if his wife wasn’t besides him. He said:

“For sure, the letters were always there. She would always reply. I don’t even know how she got the address, or all this stuff like that, but she did, and she was always there. Honestly, not to sound corny, cheesy, bro, I wouldn’t have made it as far — because I was living with her since I was 18, since I was an amateur fighter.”

Jolie Poirier drove her husband, Dustin Poirier to his first fight of his glorious UFC career

Dustin once revealed that his wife has been his biggest supporter and the one who made him shine and earn the title of ‘The Diamond’ in his glorious UFC career. During an appearance on The Danza Project, Dustin revealed he didn’t have a car at the age of 18, and it was his wife who drove him to his first fight. Not only this, his wife was the first one to know about his plan to retire.  He said:

“She’s been with me- I didn’t have a car, she drove me to my first fight when I was 18 years old. I’ve been with my wife for a long time. She’s seen both sides [of the fight game] and she’s just ready for me to come home.”
