    A video from Ajmer’s Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah has surfaced online, showing heavy rainwater gushing through the passage like a river late Friday night, sweeping carts along the streets and leaving the area severely waterlogged. The intense flow of water caused panic when a devotee slipped near the Nizam Gate, but was quickly rescued by a hotel staffer, preventing a potential tragedy.Meanwhile, heavy downpours lashed several parts of Rajasthan on Friday, flooding low-lying areas and prompting red alerts across multiple districts. In Kumbhalgarh area of Rajsamand district, a school van carrying several children was stranded as rising waters blocked the road. Swift action by local residents led to the safe rescue of all the children along with two other individuals.“Several school children got stuck in the middle when their school van stopped in the middle due to heavy rains. The locals rescued the children. Two more people have also been rescued,” said sub-divisional officer Govind Singh Ratanu.Ajmer was among the worst-hit cities, with rainwater flooding the government-run Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and disrupting normal functioning. “It has been raining since 5 AM today. Rainwater has entered many parts of the hospital,” said a local visitor.Ajmer municipal corporation health officer Prithviraj Singh urged residents to remain indoors amid the red alert issued by the weather department. “Today’s red alert has been announced by the weather department. All the common people are asked to remain in their homes. Where there is excessive water, the general public is aware of all the affected areas; therefore, they should avoid going out there and pay special attention to those places,” he said.Teams comprising engineers, sanitation staff and healthcare workers have been deployed in vulnerable areas prone to waterlogging, following directives from the municipal commissioner.In Pushkar, relentless rains for several hours submerged homes and shops in the main market area, with vehicles seen floating down the waterlogged streets. In Kota, authorities reopened the barrage gates after consistent rainfall raised water levels. Sikar also recorded intense rainfall and water accumulation in many parts.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast “extremely heavy rainfall” in parts of eastern and western Rajasthan. Red alerts have been issued for Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bundi, Kota, Tonk and Pali. Orange alerts have been sounded for ten districts including Rajsamand, while yellow alerts cover Jaipur, Jodhpur, Sikar and others.According to the IMD, Ajmer is likely to receive up to 79 mm of rainfall today, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected at 29 and 22.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Sangod (Kota) at 17 cm, followed by Pilibanga (Hanumangarh) at 11 cm.Meanwhile, a depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh is moving west-northwestward and is expected to impact eastern Rajasthan over the next 24 hours.Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing across affected districts, with officials continuing to monitor the situation closely.(with inputs from agencies)
