In a podcast episode that’s now making waves online, comedian and actor Vir Das shared a laugh-out-loud story involving none other than Bollywood legend Rishi Kapoor. Appearing on the Moment of Silence podcast hosted by Sakshi Shivdasani and Naina Bhan, Vir recalled a hilarious mid-air incident that offered a peek into Kapoor’s larger-than-life personality — and his unexpected sweet tooth.

“I’m in the back of a flight, and like in the front of the flight, I hear some chikad chikad happening between a couple in business class,” Vir said as he went on to continue, “‘You can’t eat the cake.’ ‘I want to eat the cake.’ ‘You’re not allowed to eat the cake. The doctor said no cake.’ ‘I want the bloody cake. What the f**k?’ Then, Rishi Kapoor stands up.”
The impromptu in-flight drama only got funnier. Vir added, “He’s like, ‘Arre, Vir.’ He comes and sits down next to me, and he tells me this story. He’s like you know… and he gave me this list of guys who started with him. Then at some point, he’s like, ‘You’re going to eat your cake?’ Then Rishi Kapoor ate my cake.”
The story, filled with Rishi Kapoor’s trademark charm and cheekiness, has struck a nostalgic chord with fans, who continue to remember the actor for his wit, candour, and unpredictable humour.
Rishi Kapoor, known for his iconic roles in Bobby, Karz, Chandni, and later in acclaimed films like Agneepath and Kapoor & Sons, was also famous for his unapologetic honesty and magnetic screen presence. He married fellow superstar Neetu Singh in 1980, after a much-loved on-screen and off-screen romance. Their partnership remained one of Bollywood’s most admired marriages until Rishi Kapoor’s passing in 2020, following a long battle with cancer.
While Vir Das’s anecdote has everyone laughing today, it also adds to the countless fond memories left behind by Rishi Kapoor — memories that remind us of a man who didn’t just light up screens but also made ordinary moments extraordinary.
