A BMW, allegedly driven by an intoxicated man, struck a middle-aged man on a scooter in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, resulting in him being thrown into the air and killing him on the spot.
According to eyewitnesses, the car, driven by a man reportedly under the influence of alcohol, struck the scooter at an intersection on Thursday morning.
The entire sequence of events was captured on nearby CCTV cameras. The footage clearly shows the moment the black BMW collided with the scooter as it was taking a turn at the intersection.
In the video, a man wearing a white shirt can be seen sitting on a chair in front of his house at the time of the incident. Just as he was sitting, a BMW travelling at high speed struck the scooter a few meters away, prompting him to rush toward the scene.
Local residents who gathered at the scene claimed the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident. These allegations have prompted police to initiate a thorough investigation into the incident.
Police have started legal action against the driver, who remains hospitalised. The actions taken by law enforcement will be grounded in the evidence provided by eyewitnesses and CCTV footage.
The deceased was identified as a resident of Gandhinagar. The driver of the BMW sustained serious injuries in the crash and was subsequently admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
