Indian football team and Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri — widely regarded as the biggest icon of Indian football in this era — has finally shared his thoughts on the growing uncertainty surrounding the country’s top-tier football league, the Indian Super League (ISL). In a heartfelt appeal, Chhetri urged fans, as well as members of every club — from players and support staff to even the kitmen — to remain calm during this period of concern.

Reflecting on his own emotions upon learning about the delay in the season due to an ongoing legal discussion between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), Chhetri acknowledged the anxiety this situation has created. However, he called for patience and trust in the concerned authorities to arrive at a positive and sustainable solution — one that ensures Indian football remains on the right path without suffering any setbacks.

“When my phone buzzed about a fortnight’s delay in pre-season, I smiled — I was on vacation, not eating clean, and needed time to get in shape That ‘fortnight’ has now become ‘indefinitely’ and the smile’s gone I started worrying about my own time running out, but after speaking to players across clubs, I realised my selfish concerns aren’t what matter most,” Chhhetri wrote on his social media post.

“I know that the think tank and all those involved in running the sport are working to get the football season up and running, and I’m hopeful that there is a solid fix sooner rather than later,” he added.
