“To me, fashion should be a journey, one where we’re always exploring new paths,” said Alexandra Mandelkorn, the stylist behind actress Rachel Brosnahan’s “Superman” press tour looks. The assertive and courageous “Superman” comic book journalist Lois Lane served as more than just a live action portrayal and reinterpretation for Brosnahan.
The actress stars as Lois Lane, alongside David Corenswet’s titular superhero and Nicholas Hoult’s conniving Lex Luthor, in the latest adaptation of the beloved comic book series, now in theaters. Throughout the 2025 “Superman” press tour, the Emmy Award-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” alum collaborated with Mandelkorn, showcasing the ethos of Lois Lane as a character while incorporating elements of Brosnahan’s own style.

Minute nods to method dressing are laced throughout Brosnahan’s press tour looks, but her red carpet attire served as an opportunity to blend high-fashion sensibility with homages to the “Superman” universe.
“For Rio, we thought about fun, sexy Carnival energy and found an archive Zuhair Murad that echoed that energy, and even has diamond embroidery which was a nod to their flag,” Mandelkorn explained to WWD of Brosnahan’s June red carpet look.
London provided a different palette for Mandelkorn and Brosnahan to work with. “We wanted European design, cosmopolitan, couture fashion with some edgy cutouts and found the perfect Armani Privé gown where the fabric was literally made of thousands of tiny beads,” Mandelkorn said, referencing the dress from Giorgio Armani Privé‘s spring 2025 couture collection. “The way it draped was out of this world, and felt like the draping of Superman’s cape.”

Brosnahan’s backless gown for the Los Angeles premiere of “Superman” on July 7 featured thoughtful homages to the film’s source material. The dress was crafted in what Mandelkorn dubbed “Lois Lane purple, that actually was inspired by a purple gown Lois Lane wore in ‘All-Star Superman,’ the comic this movie is primarily based off of. Lots of little details most would never pick up on, but that made it very fun for us,” she said.
Working with Brosnahan throughout the press tour was a collaborative process. “I’ll send her something a bit out of the box, or we’ll see something on a runway we both are excited about and then try it on and it’s just…not it,” Mandelkorn explained. “But it’s always fun to push the boundaries of what we know.”

While such an expansive press tour might have been taken as a daunting challenge, Mandelkorn reframed the promotional phase of the film as an opportunity to “connect with brands, new and old, and strengthen relationships. Also the scale at which the press covers these superhero franchises tends to be much greater, especially in cities like London and L.A., so there’s a lot more visibility and brands are excited about loaning for those opportunities,” she said.
“I think a challenge was making sure we got to capture all the looks in a way we loved,” Mandelkorn added.

Brosnahan’s inaugural turn as Lois Lane also serves as her introduction to the latest iteration of the “Superman” comic book film adaptation. “We definitely wanted to capture the essence of Lois Lane — her edge, her punk roots, her fearlessness — in the fashion choices we made, while also incorporating thematic colors within the ‘Superman’ universe,” Mandelkorn said.
“Rachel and Lois share many similar qualities so not only was this a dive into Lois’s style, but also a way to showcase sides of Rachel that the world hasn’t seen yet. Like Lois, she’s a multifaceted woman and getting to explore different shades of herself through fashion was so exciting and expansive.”
