Embarking on a global press tour for a film is pressure enough for any top Hollywood actor—but finding one winning red carpet look after another while pregnant is a whole other sartorial challenge. But as The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Vanessa Kirby has proven this month, it’s far from impossible. Styled by Andrew Mukamal, Kirby has taken to many step and repeats in a slew of sculptural look that put a fresh stamp on bodycon dressing: Her looks have been all about emphasizing her growing baby bump, without actually exposing it (à la Rihanna, who just dined out at Giorgio Baldi in a bump-bearing Alaïa look this week).
Her winning maternity wardrobe began back in May, when she attended one of the first premieres for the film in Mexico City. Kirby slinked onto the red carpet in a shimmery blue Schiaparelli gown that clung to all the right places. A few days later in Berlin, Kirby switched things up with a long black Alaïa maxi gown that featured strategic splices on the back side—a tasteful take on showing a little skin. When she has leaned into simple, figure-hugging silhouettes, Kirby has also looked to dazzling textures or interesting cutouts for wow factor.

More recently, at the London premiere last week, Kirby went for it in one of her boldest looks yet—a shapely blue Loewe frock made up of strands of sky-blue beads. Voluminous and avant-garde, it still accentuated her bump in a refined way. As did the draped white Givenchy dress she wore in Paris—the halter neckline and pleated A-line hemline simply fell beautifully.
While fashion risk-takers like Rihanna and Hailey Bieber have taken mom-to-be style to the extreme with crop tops and sheer gowns (and we love that too), there is something subtly chic and elegant about Kirby’s approach. With a strong emphasis on shape and cuts, she has built a press tour wardrobe that shines thanks to the details. Clearly, her baby-to-be will inherent her good taste.
