Smriti Irani reveals that she has not taken a sabbatical from politics
On the social media platform, X, a fan of Smriti Irani wished her all the best for her upcoming show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Bahu Thi season 2. However, the fan also hoped that it was a ‘brief sabbatical’ from politics. The actress-turned-politician replied to the tweet, saying she was not taking a sabbatical. Smriti also reminded that she had balanced both her acting and political career for 25 years. However, she had taken a break from the acting world for a decade while serving as a Cabinet Minister. The former MP stated that she has never shirked her ‘sangathan (BJP) responsibilities’ and never will. Replying to the fan’s tweet about her speculated sabbatical from politics, Smriti Irani wrote:
“No sabbatical . Have worked both in media and politics for 25 years with only a decadal break due to my responsibility as Cabinet Minister. Never compromised on my sangathan responsibilities, never will.”

Smriti Irani on juggling her acting and political careers
Smriti Irani, in a past interview with NDTV, had highlighted that many politicians have more than one profession. She said that, like there are political leaders who are part-time lawyers, teachers, or journalists, she is a part-time actor. The former MP had stated that she always managed to balance her acting career and political endeavours simultaneously. Smriti stated that the only difference between her and the other politicians who have more than one profession is that she is the one who is more in the spotlight, given her career as a part-time actor.

Producer, Ektaa Kapoor revealed that her magnum opus, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, went off air before it could hit the 2000 episodes milestone. They needed just 150 more episodes for that. Hence, she wants to hit this record with season 2 of the show, which will have 150 episodes only, reported Hindustan Times. Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhay will reprise their roles as the iconic on-screen couple, ‘Mihir and Tulsi Virani’. The first scene was shot on July 3, 2025, the date when the first season was aired in 2000. Recently, a promo featuring the first look of Smriti Irani as ‘Tulsi’ was launched, which has filled people with nostalgia and anticipation for the upcoming season.
