Families would sit together post-lunch to watch Kumkum and Sumit’s emotional yet endearing journey unfold on Star Plus.

Juhi Parmar, who played the titular role, became a household name overnight. Her portrayal of the ideal daughter-in-law, Kumkum, was loved by viewers across generations. Her chemistry with Hussain Kuwajerwala, who played Sumit, was effortless and gave television one of its most adored jodis.
Today, marking the show’s 23rd anniversary, Juhi Parmar shared a special video on Instagram, dressed exactly like Kumkum. Wearing a red saree and sporting the signature round red bindi that became a rage during the show’s run, Juhi recreated the nostalgia. The iconic Kumkum title track played in the background as she smiled gracefully, taking fans straight back to the golden days of Indian television.
Juhi captioned the post, “Each year we celebrate this day when our ‘journey together’ started. This day changed my life. Kumkum is a part of me and such a special part of our bond! I thank my stars everyday for giving me a role that created such a special bond and a show that was so progressive. Recreating the track and the look that still lives in our hearts as Kumkum continues to celebrate one more year, and a bandhan which becomes only stronger…”
With Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi returning on screens, fans are now demanding Kumkum’s return too. After all, some stories and characters are timeless, and Kumkum remains etched as one of Indian TV’s most beloved shows even after two decades.
