Ashutosh Rana, Gulshan Grover, Sanjay Mishra, Pritt Kamani and debutant Divita Juneja along with director Umesh Shukla attended the launch of the trailer of their upcoming film Heer Express in Mumbai. Umesh Shukla is known as a play director and also the one who made films like OMG Oh My God (2012), 102 Not Out (2018), etc. But he has also had a career as an actor.
Heer Express trailer launch: Umesh Shukla makes a CONFESSION: “I was the ghost-writer on Hera Pheri; I was also the main villain in Yaar Gaddar”
A journalist asked Umesh Shukla about being a part of the 1996 Akshay Kumar-starrer Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. It also starred Gulshan Grover. Umesh smiled and said, “My first film was Yaar Gaddar and I was the main villain in it. The year was 1994. From that time, Gulshan Grover and I are together. Then there were films where I was the ghost writer and he was acting like Hera Pheri (2000) and so many other films. We have worked in 10-12 films together.”
The journalist asked in jest if Gulshan Grover forced him to cast the latter. Umesh replied, “Never. He has a strong voice lekin andar se woh moum (wax) ke hai. He’s a superb guy.”
Ashutosh Rana, meanwhile, stole the show when he explained why we don’t have villains anymore like before. He explained, “There are 4 yugs even in cinema. In Sat Yug, the Gods lived in one lok while demons stayed in another lok. Then the Yug changed. In the Treta Yug, both Gods and demons started living in the same lok. In the Dwapar Yug, God and demon, that is, the hero and villain, began to reside in the same family. At present, we are in Kalyug. Now, dev and daanav reside in the same person! This is an evolving process as our mindset changes. Hence, our way of communication also undergoes a change.”
He continued, “So, it’s not like the era of villain has ended. It’s a circle of life. We began from Sat Yug and went to Kalyug. Now, from Kalyug, we’ll go back to Sat Yug.”
When asked about the language debate, Ashutosh Rana answered, “Majhe mulganchi matrubhasha Marathi aahe aani maajhi baaykochi matrubhasha pan Marathi aahe (My son’s mother tongue and my wife’s mother tongue is Marathi). I believe that language is a subject of communication, not a medium of conflict! Bharat samvaad mein vishwas rakhta hai. Bharat kabhi bhi vivaad mein vishwas nahin rakhta (smiles).”
Heer Express releases in cinemas on August 8.
