The Harry Potter franchise’s books and movies have a special place in the hearts of children across generations. A full reboot of the OG books is making its way to the small screens through HBO. A brand new cast will be featured in the series, which has been completely separate from the original movie series. The production work began in July 2025, and currently the filming is underway in the same place where the original movie was filmed, Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, UK. Recently, the first look of the new ‘Harry’ was disclosed, and the expected premiere date was also revealed.

The first look of the new Harry Potter HBO series is out, along with the release date

The role of ‘Harry Potter’ will be played by an 11-year-old actor, Dominic McLaughlin. The first look of ‘Harry Potter’ was released recently, wherein he was seen wearing the boy wizard’s iconic round glasses and Hogwarts uniform. Well, the first glimpse took us back to our childhood days in just a second. It was also revealed that the first season will premiere in either late 2026 or early 2027 on HBO and HBO Max. HBO series, i.e. the TV adaptation of JK Rowling’s iconic book, is anticipated to take a total of 10 years to finish.

There will be one separate season to represent each part, resulting in seven seasons, which will help the audience delve even deeper into JK Rowling’s magical world. While the movie adaptation had 8 parts, splitting the last one into two, the series is expected to feature only seven seasons, and wrap up the final part in just one season. Each season is expected to bring detailed storytelling, which the movie version might have missed. JK Rowling is involved as executive producer of the series, and the television adaptation will seemingly focus on character development in a stronger way, along with featuring details from the magical world of Rowling. To mention, HBO will exclusively release the series for the United States in 2027, and the details about the international release still await.

Other cast members of the Harry Potter HBO series

When we hear ‘Harry Potter’, it’s definitely Daniel Radcliffe whom we visualise, and now with Dominic McLaughlin being the new boy wizard, the excitement around the Potterheads is unreachable. If the reports are to be believed, to select the three leads, ‘Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger’, a total of 30,000 auditions had taken place. Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Staunton will be seen as the lead roles of the HBO series.

Apart from that, John Lithgow will be seen as ‘Dumbledore’, while ‘Professor McGonagall’s role will be played by Janet McTeer. Papa Esidou is going to play the role of ‘Snape’ while Nick Frost will be seen as ‘Hagrid’. Italian actress, Alessia Leoni will play the role of the Indian girl, ‘Parvati Patil’, in the series.
