The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has officially revealed its 2025 nominations, setting the stage for a star-studded celebration of Indian storytelling across cinema and OTT platforms. As one of the biggest cultural events outside India, IFFM is known for its diverse programming and commitment to spotlighting talent across languages, genres, and formats. Now in its 16th year, the festival will be held from August 14 to 24, with the much-anticipated IFFM Awards Night scheduled for August 15.
Stree 2, Homebound, Pataal Lok 2, and others dominate IFFM 2025 nominations; full list reveals major surprises
Among this year’s standout contenders, Homebound has emerged as a frontrunner with multiple nominations across major categories including Best Film, Best Director for Neeraj Ghaywan, and dual nods in Best Actor (Male) for Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa. The film’s emotionally layered storytelling and powerhouse performances have clearly resonated with jurors.
Matching its dominance is the horror-comedy sequel Stree 2, which has secured a Best Film nomination and a Best Actress (Female) nod for Shraddha Kapoor. The film’s genre-bending brilliance seems to have cemented its place among the festival’s top picks.
Not far behind is the highly anticipated L2: Empuraan, starring Malayalam megastar Mohanlal, which has bagged a nomination for Best Film and Best Actor (Male), reaffirming its place as a fan-favorite even ahead of its global release.
Also competing at the top is Superboys of Malegaon, which has been nominated for Best Film, Best Director for Reema Kagti, and Best Actor (Male) for Adarsh Gourav. The heartwarming tale appears to have struck the right chord with audiences and critics alike.
In the OTT space, Paatal Lok Season 2 leads the charge with major nominations for Best Web Series and Best Actor (Male) for Jaideep Ahlawat. It’s closely followed by Manorathangal, a Malayalam-language gem with nods for Best Web Series, Best Actor (Male) for Mammootty, and Best Actress (Female) for Parvathy Thiruvothu.
Meanwhile, Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper has also emerged as a strong OTT contender, securing nominations for Best Web Series, Best Actor (Male) for Manav Kaul, and Best Actress (Female) for Tillotama Shome.
The indie circuit, as always, offers a treasure trove of standout work, with Baksho Bondi (Shadowbox) and Village Rockstars 2 receiving nominations in Best Indie Film, Best Director, and acting categories, highlighting the growing global interest in regional and grassroots cinema.
Other notable mentions include Maharaj, Kalki 2898AD, and Meiyazhagan, each nominated for Best Film, while celebrated performers like Sharmila Tagore, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Bhanita Das find themselves in contention for Best Actress in a Feature Film.
With an esteemed international jury led by Australian industry veterans like Lion director Garth Davis and filmmaker Nadia Tass, IFFM 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark event for Indian cinema on the world stage.
