Silambarasan Tesingu Rajendar, popularly known as Simbu or STR, is an actor, producer, director and playback singer who rose to prominence with his work in the Tamil film industry. He is the eldest son of actor and director, T. Rajendra. STR made his debut in the film industry in 2002 with Kadhal Azhivathillai. He has since appeared in several films, some of which require the actor to undergo some extreme transformations. However, his upcoming project with Vetri Maaran seems to introduce the biggest change for the actor.

Silambarasan TR has made a remarkable physical transformation recently. In preparations for his role in director, Vetri Maaran’s next ambitious project, the actor has made some intense changes to his appearance. STR lost over 10 kilograms in just 10 days for the film, which has created a massive buzz around the film. While the official title for the film has not yet been announced, at the moment, it is being called STR49.
The official details about the film, which is still under wraps, are already drawing attention for its connection with Vetri Maaran’s critically acclaimed film, Vada Chennai, which was released in 2018. Since the buzz around the film started, many have speculated that it might be a direct sequel.
Vetri Maaran shares details about STR49
The director, Vetri, recently clarified the film’s position within that universe. In a video shared by the production house, Grass Root Film Company, Vetri Maaran could be seen explaining that the film will be set in the same world but will not be a sequel. He was quoted as saying:
“STR49 is set in the world of Vada Chennai, but it’s not Vada Chennai 2. Since Dhanush owns the copyright, I told him I was making a film with Silambarasan in the Vada Chennai world. Dhanush didn’t ask for a single rupee and willingly agreed to give an NOC.”

Adding further intrigue, sources told India Today that director Nelson Dilipkumar will make a cameo appearance in the film. Kavin and Manikandan are also expected to appear in brief but significant roles. Meanwhile, Vada Chennai cast members Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani, and Kishore will be reprising their characters. The team has finally finished shooting for the promo of the film, and the main shoot is expected to start in the coming weeks.
Vetri Maaran on his alleged row with Dhanush
Vetri Maaran also addressed online speculations about the possible fallout between him and Dhanush. He shared that he doesn’t appreciate how the rumours are being circulated, and the actor would never interfere with his creative process. He added that when he went through a financially rough patch, it was Dhanush who helped him and stated:
“I didn’t appreciate the way these rumours were circulating. Dhanush would never interfere in my creative process. When I was in financial trouble recently, it was Dhanush who arranged the funds, as an advance from a producer.”
