TV actress, Shubhangi Atre is popularly known for her role as ‘Angoori Bhabhi’ in the TV show, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, recently spoke about her days on the sets of Kasturi. In a candid chat with Siddharth Kannan, she opened up about the behaviour of her co-star, Karan Patel. She spoke about his tough temperament and how that became a learning for her.
Karan Patel’s behaviour on the sets of Kasturi
In a candid interview, Shubhangi Atre recalled her days from the sets of Kasturi and spoke about the experience she had while working with co-actor, Karan Patel. She shared that Karan Patel was short tempered at that time and even used to arrive late on a daily basis, which used to be challenging for her as a newcomer. She spoke about the long hours of shoot and said that sometimes she would leave home on a Wednesday and return only on Friday or Saturday, as the episodes were shot and telecasted almost immediately. She recalled the entire experience and described it as her “ragging period”. She shared:
“Sometimes when I left home on a Wednesday, I’d return only on Friday or Saturday after the telecast. It was cut-to-cut telecast, and I worked day and night. I used to shoot for 30 days non-stop.”
Shubhangi Atre shares learning from Karan Patel
While talking about her entire experience on her first show, Shubhangi Atre shared that she learnt a lot from the experience she had with Karan Patel. She shared that it made her strong enough to tackle difficult situations in life. She compared her experience to a student in college, who faces ragging in the first year but eventually becomes tough. She said, it was the same for her, it was her ragging period. In her words:
“Whatever stories you’ve heard from that time-I feel they were necessary for me. It was like a little ragging. Just like engineering or medical colleges, where there’s a bit of ragging that helps you become tough, that’s what it was for me. I consider that as my ragging period.”
Shubhangi Atre talks about Karan Patel
Even after having such a traumatic experience with Karan Patel, Shubhangi Atre spoke very fondly about Karan Patel. During the same interview with Siddharth Kannan, she called Karan Patel one of the best actors on television and expressed that she has learnt a lot from him. She said:
“I learned a lot from Karan. He is actually a wonderful actor. I don’t want to offend anyone, but there are very few good male actors on TV. He is genuinely a very good actor, and I’ve learned a lot from him.”

After the show, Kasturi ended, Shubhangi Atre slowly and gradually made a strong place for herself in the TV industry. She appeared in shows like, Do Hanson Ka Jodaa and Chidiya Ghar, but she got widespread popularity when she replaced Shilpa Shinde in the show, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!. Even though in the beginning it looked like the audience wouldn’t adapt to this change, Shubhangi managed to win the hearts with her charm and became a household name in no time.
In her personal life, Shubhangi Atre was married to Piyush Poorey and they have a daughter, Ashi. However, the relationship didn’t work out and the couple officially parted ways in 2025. After the separation, Shubhangi Atre faced a lot of judgements, but she stood strong and today, continues to raise her daughter as a single mother.
