American sneaker brand P.F. Flyers launched its Sandlot Club Collection on Friday, offering sneakers with interchangeable patches for the first time. The collection draws inspiration from sandlot baseball culture, renowned for its improvisation and gear swapping; the brand was prominently featured in the 1993 movie “The Sandlot.”

P.F. Flyers’ classic Center Hi sneaker, a lace-up high-top style made with heavyweight canvas material, takes the spotlight in the collection with black and antique white colorways offered. In addition to the flair of swappable patches nodding to the brand and the Sandlot Club, the shoes feature red, black and white heel stripes at the back referencing retro baseball uniforms. Additionally, a “Spirit of Play” tag pays tribute to the spirit of sandlot baseball.

Other sneaker design elements include the Posture Foundation insole, which aims to provide body-aligning stability and lasting comfort; a gum rubber outsole and ribbed toe bumpers that offer traction and durability, and a soft, durable washed canvas upper that presents a vintage vibe with a modern feel. The sneakers are marked at a price of $90.

P.F. Flyers, which dates back to 1937, was acquired by Kassia Davis in 2021 from her family’s brand, New Balance; she is the daughter of Jim Davis, who serves as chairman and majority owner of the major athletic company.
“We certainly don’t want to lose the heritage and the authenticity of the brand,” Kassia Davis said of P.F. Flyers around the time of the acquisition. “But we are certainly going to evolve it into a brand that’s more relevant to today’s consumer.”
P.F. Flyers is also known for an ambassadorship with NBA icon Bob Cousy, which endures to this day as he nears the age of 97.
