Shanaya Kapoor’s Bollywood debut was a much-anticipated affair, with the star kid being a familiar face on social media and industry parties. She was supposed to be launched by Karan Johar with his movie, Bedhadak, whose posters were released in 2022. However, as the film is yet to hit the floors, Shanaya made her debut opposite Vikrant Massey in the film Ankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. As the film’s first-day low earnings have been revealed, it seems that this debut might mark a disastrous start for the newcomer.

As per a report by Sacnilk, Ankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan was able to earn only Rs. 35 lakhs on its first day. Released on July 11, 2025, the film’s earnings are the lowest of 2025, even though it hit the theatres on Friday, which generally sees more collections for films. Apart from being the lowest opener of the year, it has also made a record as being Vikrant Massey‘s lowest opening film.
On July 11, 2025, along with the Shanaya and Vikrant starrer film, Rajkumar Rao’s Maalik and the Hollywood film, Superman, were also released. Both the Bollywood films were made with a budget of Rs. 50 crores as per an India TV report. While Ankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’s day 1 earnings are a record low for 2025, Maalik’s collection is being termed as ‘weak’ with earnings of Rs. 3.35 crore. Superman, starring David Corenswet, has left both the Bollywood films behind and amassed Rs. 6.9 crore on its first day.

Shanaya Kapoor and Vikrant Massey play the role of ‘Saba’ and ‘Jahaan’ in Ankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. ‘Saba’ is a theatre artists and ‘Jahaan’ is a visually impaired man, and the two meet and fall in love on a train journey through the Himalayas. The premise of this film is inspired by Ruskin Bond‘s short story, The Eyes Have It.
Netizens shared their honest reviews on YouTube and called this film a ‘failed nepo baby launch’. One commenter penned down, “What’s funny is that even if the movie flops, this Nepo Woman still has 3 new films in the making and will still feature as a female lead in upcoming movies after that. Vikrant’s performance in promoting the film was commendable”. Many other netizens questioned Shanaya’s acting abilities and her star kid background. One Youtube user wrote:
“Despite being a failed launch, she will receive offers from various production houses for different films. That’s the irony and the sad, bitter truth.”
It is interesting to note that Shanaya Kapoor has in fact many projects in the pipeline. Apart from Dharma Production’s Bedhadak, she will be seen in Vrusshabha, a regional language film starring Mohanlal and produced by Ekta Kapoor. Additionally, a teaser has been launched for Shanaya’s upcoming film, Tu Yaa Main, where she will be sharing screen with Adarsh Gourav.
