Chandigarh: The Chandigarh cyber police registered an FIR against Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Aman Arora, President of the AAP Punjab Unit, for allegedly circulating a doctored video of Partap Singh Bajwa, Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. On the complaint of Partap Singh Bajwa, the cyber police registered a case under sections 336 (4) (forgery as making a false document or electronic record with the intention to cause harm, deception, or to facilitate fraud), 356 (defamation), and 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy) of BNS against Cheema, Aman Arora, and an unknown media handler of AAP Punjab social media on X and Facebook. In his complaint to the UT police filed on July 7,2025, Partap Singh Bajwa stated that recently, an FIR was registered against Bikram Singh Majithia by the Punjab vigilance bureau. He mentioned that, in utter violation of the law, officials of the vigilance bureau entered Majithia’s wife’s house and even went up to her bedroom. Such conduct against a woman MLA was uncalled for and contrary to the law.On June 25, 2025, Bajwa posted a 3.48-minute-long video on his official X handle, criticising the actions of Punjab vigilance bureau officials against a woman MLA and highlighting similar misconduct by them against MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira. However, Bajwa, in his complaint, alleged that AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, Harpal Cheema, Aman Arora, and their team, edited his video and deleted the name of Ganieve Kaur and her reference as a woman MLA. This doctored video was edited to make it appear as if Bajwa supported Bikram Singh Majithia. All the leaders of the AAP started posting these doctored videos on their official X handles and circulating them on social media, trying to show that he supported Majithia, who was an accused. Bajwa also attached the original video and the edited and doctored videos, allegedly prepared by AAP leaders, with his application in a pendrive with his complaint filed at the Sector-3 police station in Chandigarh.Bajwa stated that this video, after being edited, was intentionally circulated to harm his political image and that of the Congress party through him. The entire plan of AAP leaders was to ensure that Bajwa was defamed, maligned, and accused of supporting persons facing prosecution and supporting violators of the law, whereas the actual issue raised by him pertaining to the manner of arrest and conduct of Punjab vigilance bureau officials was edited, Bajwa claimed in his complaint.
