Rajkummar Rao’s foray into action with Maalik has met with a lukewarm response at the box office in India. According to early estimates, Maalik has collected in the range of Rs. 3.25 crores to Rs. 3.75 crores, in sync with the pre-release predictions. The film has opened better than what the advance bookings suggested, as there was a fear of starting around the Rs. 2.50 crore mark too, but the walk-ups were better due to mass-appealing content.

The urban markets are not up to the mark, whereas there is some genuine movement in the single screens. The start is however, poor as the costs are on the higher side and the film needed to show a better start to have a chance. There won’t be much of a growth as the action genre is usually frontloaded.

Maalik is likely to collect Rs. 15 crores over the opening weekend.
