The early 2010s are calling, and people are answering. According to new data from Depop, searches on the company’s website for some of the era’s most popular shoe trends have skyrocketed this year, with a special nod to stacked heels.

Over the past three months, searches for stacked shoes have seen an 86 percent increase. Other shoes from the early 2010s that are also trending on the platform include wedges, with a 52 percent increase in the same period; chunky heels, with a 14 percent increase; and other popular brands from that time, like Jeffrey Campbell, which saw an 80 percent increase this year.

Stacked heels are similar to block heels, but they differ in their construction and overall appearance.

Stacked heels are constructed from multiple layers of material, which can be made from leather, wood or other materials, and are more distinctive due to their textured and striped appearance at the heel. They can have a chunkier or thicker heel, or a slightly thinner one.

Block heels, on the other hand, are characterized by their wider, solid and often square shape. They both offer more stability than stilettos, but stacked heels could also be found in tall, six-inch heels.

Brands like Jessica Simpson, Steve Madden, Bebe, Vince Camuto, Christian Louboutin and more were popular brands people reached for during this era, pairing their minidresses with the sky-high heels. They were also offered in more casual variations with shorter heels from footwear brands like Aldo, Franco Sarto, Clarks, Charlotte Russe and J. Crew.

Some of those brands still sell the heels today. DSW currently offers Vince Camuto’s Pazton Platform sandal, made from smooth leather material and featuring a chunky sole, a stacked heel, and gold-tone accents. Steve Madden also offers a more casual stacked heel, the Truro leather sandal, available in black and tan, featuring a wooden bottom, a square toe, and a secure ankle strap with a buckle.

Shoe trends and styles went through quite a transformation in recent years, heavily influenced by the sneaker boom and the need for comfort amid the global pandemic. While a high heel resurgence seems to be brewing this year, styles from the early 2000s and the 2010s are what people are setting their eyes on this year.
