Andhra Pradesh Police successfully traced and found two minor girls within four and a half hours of receiving a missing persons’ complaint. The Class 8 students, who had gone missing from Ambedkar Konaseema district on Monday evening, were found safely on a train bound for Tirupati, following a swift and coordinated operation across multiple departments.

The girls, both students at a local school, had reportedly left for class as usual but failed to return home, prompting their parents to lodge a complaint at the Angara Police Station. Despite efforts by the family to search the surrounding areas, there was no sign of the girls, leading to growing concern.

Angara Sub-Inspector Harish Kumar escalated the matter to Mandapeta Rural Circle Inspector P Dhoraraju, who, recognising the urgency of the case, alerted senior officials. Superintendent of Police B Krishna Rao and Deputy Superintendent of Police B Raghuveer classified the case as a high priority due to the involvement of minors. A technical team was brought in to assist the investigation, and four special teams were formed under the direction of CI Dhoraraju.

CCTV footage showed the girls heading towards the railway station, and investigators learned that one of the girls had made a phone call to a relative while on a train. Although the number was later switched off, mobile tower data helped track the phone’s signal to an area past Vijayawada. Based on this information, officials deduced that the girls were likely travelling on the Kakinada-Tirupati express.

The Railway Police were alerted, and a special team boarded the suspected train armed with photographs of the missing girls. The search culminated at Ongole station, where the girls were found in the general coach and positively identified.

A preliminary inquiry revealed that the girls had been upset with strict rules at home and had grown disinterested in their studies. They had intended to go to Tirupati in search of peace. The police recovered jewellery the girls had taken with them, including gold chains, earrings, and silver anklets, and returned the items to the families.
