Get ready for a sweeping new historical saga. The upcoming series Chief of War, led by and co-created by Jason Momoa, is set to premiere with its first two episodes on Friday, August 1. New episodes will follow weekly each Friday, wrapping up its nine-episode run by September 19.
The newly released trailer gives a powerful glimpse into the series, spotlighting Momoa as Ka’iana, a fearless warrior determined to bring the Hawaiian islands together amid growing threats from foreign forces. The footage hints at a gripping tale of resistance, resilience, and cultural identity.
Told through an indigenous lens, the series offers what’s being called “an epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawaii,” making it one of the few dramas to center Native Hawaiian perspectives in such a bold and cinematic way.
Joining Momoa is a stellar ensemble of predominantly Polynesian actors, including Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), Temuera Morrison (The Book of Boba Fett), Te Ao o Hinepehinga (Breakwater), Cliff Curtis (Fear the Walking Dead), and Moses Goods (NCIS: Hawai’i). Also featured are Siua Ikale‘o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, Te Kohe Tuhaka, Benjamin Hoetjes, and newcomer Kaina Makua.
Chief of War marks another collaboration between Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, who co-created the series and previously penned the 2018 action film Braven, which starred Momoa.
From the striking landscapes of Hawai’i to its turbulent and often untold history, Chief of War promises a stirring blend of action, heritage, and heart.
