Actor Rajkummar Rao continues to remain a deeply private person, even as the spotlight around him grows brighter with time. Reflecting on the evolving nature of celebrity culture, the actor recently opened up about the increasing presence of paparazzi in his life, admitting, “It wasn’t always like this.”

Despite being one of the most respected names in the industry, the ‘Maalik’ actor consciously avoids unnecessary public appearances, choosing instead to spend his downtime at home with loved ones. “I only step out when I have to,” he shared during his interview with News18, while also appreciating the respectful nature of the media. “They’re very sweet and really understanding,” he added.

Rajkummar noted that the paparazzi’s familiarity with his car often leads them to follow him, hoping to capture spontaneous moments. However, he’s firm about keeping certain parts of his life away from the public eye. “I only use Instagram, and that too mostly to share my work or things that matter to me,” he explained, underscoring his preference for meaningful engagement over constant online updates.

Even with his reserved nature, Rajkummar clarifies that he isn’t an introvert. He enjoys spending time with close friends and like-minded individuals. “If I have to be social and outgoing, I can be that around my people,” he said, highlighting his focus on genuine connections rather than performative interactions.

It’s on a film set – between the calls of ‘action’ and ‘cut’ – that Rajkummar feels most alive. He credits the camera for bringing out his truest self, adding that he has “never struggled with shedding inhibitions” while performing. For him, acting remains a safe and liberating space.

Rajkummar Rao and his actor-wife Patralekhaa announced pregnancy on July 9. On the work front, Rao will be seen next in ‘Maalik’. The gangster drama releases in theatres on July 11.
