Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader and DMK ally Vaiko lost his temper at journalists during a party meeting in Tamil Nadu’s Sathur on Wednesday, leading to attacks on media persons by his cadres.
During his speech, which reportedly stretched beyond an hour, several party cadres left the hall, leaving empty chairs in view.
Journalists present at the venue turned their cameras toward the vacant chairs. Irked by this, Vaiko shouted from the stage, questioning the journalists’ “sense” in filming the empty seats and accusing them of trying to portray a poor turnout.
“Which media house are you from? You are showing empty chairs! Do you have sense? Will you also show the number of people standing outside? Snatch the cameras, pull out the film rolls,” Vaiko yelled, directing his cadres to seize the cameras.
As journalists attempted to leave the venue after the incident, they came under attack from party workers, resulting in injuries to at least two regional reporters.
