The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has unveiled a dog-feeding scheme, with plans to serve daily chicken rice to 5,000 street dogs across the city. The civic body will spend Rs 22 per dog for 367 grams of chicken rice, which brings the annual cost of the initiative to an estimated Rs 2.88 crore.

Initially branded as ‘Kukkir Tihar’, the programme was floated as a public participation campaign to encourage community responsibility in the care of stray animals.
