Ashutosh Rana is one of the most talented and versatile actors Indian cinema has seen in recent decades. He began his acting journey in 1995 and met his now-wife, actress-director Renuka Shahane, a few years later, and there has been no looking back since. However, even after over two decades of their marriage, the extremely talented duo has never shared the screen in any project. In a recent conversation, the Pagglait actor hinted that a possible collaboration might be on the cards.
Ashutosh Rana expressed his desire to work with Renuka Shahane
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Ashutosh Rana reflected on his acting journey and shared how, despite being married for years, he has never worked alongside his multi-talented wife, Renuka Shahane. Expressing his admiration, the Raaz actor called himself lucky to have her as his partner and showered her with praise, saying:
“I also want to work with her… She’s an actor of such a high level, and a writer and director of such calibre… I consider her one of the top actors in the country. I am saying this not because I’m her husband, but I’m her husband because she’s such a great actor… So I’m a fan first. I consider myself lucky that I got an opportunity to spend my life with such a wonderful and smart woman as my partner.”
So, will fans ever see the husband-wife duo together in a project? Well, Ashutosh has given an affirmative nod. The Dushman actor shared that he and Renuka are waiting to get on a project that taps into both of their calibres. More than acting, Ashutosh wants to be directed by his talented wife, and confirmed that the latter is already writing a script with him in mind. He shared:
“We are waiting for the right time and the right project. That a project with such potential comes our way, which taps into both of our calibre. However, more than acting with her, I want her to direct me. And that might turn into a reality very soon, as she is writing a script for me.”
Renuka Shahane says Ashutosh Rana’s Guru chose her as his bahu
During a chat with Gauhar Khan, Renuka shared that Ashutosh Rana proposed to her on his spiritual guru’s advice, not after dating for years, as many believed. Both were thriving in their respective careers, and dating at that phase was already a big step. However, the spiritual guidance ultimately gave them clarity, pushing them towards the next step.
What’s more interesting is that Ashutosh’s guru didn’t even know he was dating Renuka, yet chose her as his ideal bahu. The revelation felt like a destiny to Ashutosh, but Renuka’s mother was shocked by his decision. The actress shared:
“He was scared. Who is this person? He didn’t know that Guruji was talking about me only. Guruji said that she is a good girl; you should ask for her hand. Rana ji was clueless, but he actually did tell this to my mother. My mom was very shocked. She said, ‘Guruji ne bataaya islie aap karahe hain ya aapko sach mein karni hai.”
Ashutosh and Renuka’s love story
Ashutosh Rana and Renuka Shahane’s love story began in the late 1990s after they met at a film preview. Their bond eventually grew through heartfelt conversations, leading Ashutosh to propose to Renuka with a poem. Despite a failed marriage in the past, Renuka said ‘yes’ without hesitation. The couple married in 2001 and now share a beautiful life with their two sons, Shauryaman and Satyendra.
