Smriti Irani is one of the most iconic personalities in India who has made a name for herself in two very different professions. After gaining immense love and fame from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Smriti joined the BJP and has remained an important member of the party ever since. However, the actress-turned-politician is making her comeback to the small screen with season 2 of the show. Amidst this comeback, Smriti discusses how she balances her two illustrious careers.
Smriti Irani says she is a part-time actor
Smriti Irani, in an interview with NDTV, highlighted that many politicians have more than one profession. She said that, like there are political leaders who are part-time lawyers, teachers, or journalists, she is a part-time actor. The former MP stated that she has always managed to balance her acting career and political endeavours simultaneously. Smriti stated that the only difference between her and the other politicians who have more than one profession is that she is the one who is more in the spotlight, given her career as a part-time actor. Talking about both her careers, the actress-turned-politician said:
“Just like many politicians are part-time lawyers, part-time teachers, part-time journalists. I just happen to be a part-time actor. I’ve done it simultaneously, which is what I think is difficult to grasp. Like I said, the only difference between me and my other political workers is they are part-time lawyers, and there’s no videographer along with them. There’s no makeup person along with them, there’s a script writer. It’s just that we’re all from different locations. I’m just the one in the spotlight.”

Smirti Irani talks about her successful run as an actress and a politician
Smriti Irani stated that no one in India has managed to be successful in both these very competitive professions. She also said that at the age of 49, having a 25-year-long career in both media and politics is a blessed run. Moreover, achieving this and being at the top of the game as a woman for over two decades is a great feat, stated Smriti. However, she also gave credit to luck and destiny for playing a role in both her professions. Smriti Irani said in the interview:
“For a 49 year old to have a 25 year run, not only in media, but also politics… That is a blessed run, because in our country’s history, never has somebody managed to, with God’s blessings, managed to be successful in both these very competitive fields. And more so, if you’re a woman to be at the top of the game continuously for two and a half decades in media and politics is no mean feat.”
