A 75-year-old Dehradun resident Kaushalya Devi is battling for life after two Rottweiler dogs attacked her near her residence on Sunday while she was on her morning walk.

The elderly woman was rushed to Doon Hospital for treatment. However, due to her worsening condition, she was later shifted to a private hospital where she underwent multiple surgeries. According to the doctors, the woman’s condition remains critical.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage of the attack has gone viral on social media. The woman’s family filed a police complaint against the dog owner, Mohammed Zaid, after the attack.

Police on Monday arrested the owner of the dangerous rottweiler dogs, as per PTI. Police have started an investigation and are looking into the negligence in supervising the dogs.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh said, acting on the complaint given by Umang Nirwal, Kaushalya Devi’s son, a case was registered against the dog owner under relevant sections.

It may be noted that Rottweilers are known to be an aggressive dog breed and are banned in several countries. In India, there are currently no strict rules about keeping such dog breeds, but incidents like this raise concerns.

Earlier, the central government, responding to complaints of people being attacked, some killed, by “dangerous breed” of dogs, banned the import, breeding, purchase and sale of 23 foreign breeds of dogs, including rottweilers, pitbulls and american bulldogs.
