Pakistani actress Humaira Asghar was found dead in her apartment in Karachi’s Ittehad Commercial area, Phase VI, authorities confirmed on Tuesday, July 8.
The body was discovered in a state of advanced decomposition, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza informed local media that officers went to the apartment around 3 p.m. following reports of concern.
Police broke open the door when repeated knocking failed to elicit any response. They found the dead body of Asghar inside, and it is suspected she was killed almost two weeks ago.
DIG Raza added, “The body seemed to be days old.” Asghar, said to be between 30 and 35 years old. She has been living alone in the apartment for the last seven years. Neighbors said they became suspicious because of a strong smell and no activity from her house, which led to the call to police.
While the cause of death is yet to be ascertained, authorities are treating the case as a potential natural death at present.
A formal enquiry is being conducted, and police have warned the public from speculation until facts are determined.
“Forensic teams were swiftly sent to collect evidence from the scene,” DIG Raza stated.
Post-Mortem Underway at Jinnah Hospital
The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for further examination. Dr Summaiya Syed, who is in charge of the autopsy, said that the remains were “in a very advanced stage of decomposition, and it was going to be hard to tell the exact cause of death at this time.” More analysis will be needed.
At this point, no foul play has been officially confirmed, and authorities are waiting for post-mortem results before making judgments. Police have called on the public and media to avoid speculation until the investigation is complete.
