The first look of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana was recently launched and has already gone viral, featuring glimpses of Ranbir Kapoor as ‘Lord Ram’ and Yash as ‘Ravan’. Meanwhile, the teaser also mentioned that Sai Pallavi will be playing the role of ‘Goddess Sita’ and Ravi Dubey will be seen as ‘Lakshman’. It was also mentioned in the teaser that Sunny Deol will be seen as ‘Lord Hanuman’ in the film. Amidst this, rumours are circulating that his brother, Bobby Deol, who was also Ranbir’s co-star in Animal, will be essaying the role of ‘Kumbhakarna’. However, whether this is true or not has recently been fact-checked.
Bobby Deol will not be playing the role of ‘Kumbhakarna’ in Ramayana
In Valmiki’s Ramayana, Kumbhakarna was the brother of the demon king, Ravana and fought on his side. However, this unique character has been loved by many people despite fighting on the side of evil. Hence, as the anticipation for the upcoming film, Ramayana is mounting, people are also excited to find out who will be essaying this character. Amidst the speculations, Bobby Deol’s name surfaced, and rumours were circulating that he would be seen as ‘Kumbhakarna’ in the film. However, Bollywood Hungama reported that these rumours are false. A source said to the portal:
“The reports are inaccurate. His name just cropped up all of a sudden. Ramayana is one of the most anticipated upcoming films of 2026. Given the scale of the project, casting speculations have been rife, but it is important to separate facts from rumours. Here’s hoping all the speculation regarding Bobby Deol’s involvement in Ramayana is put to rest soon.”

Ramayana will be released in two parts, with part one hitting cinema theatres on Diwali 2026. A year later, part two will be released in 2027. After the first glimpse of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana was released on July 3, 2025, people heaped praises on the background score composed by ace Indian music director, A.R. Rahman and two-time Oscar-winning composer, Hans Zimmer. The VFX, special effects and the looks of the characters were also highly appreciated by fans. The title card showcased that Ranbir Kapoor will be playing the role of ‘Lord Ram’, Yash will be seen as the antagonist, ‘Ravan’, Sai Pallavi as ‘Goddess Sita’ and Ravi Dubey as ‘Laxman’.
Bobby Deol’s work front
Bobby Deol has a number of films in the pipeline that span across multiple Indian film industries. He will be seen in the upcoming Telugu film, Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1, which is set to release on July 24, 2025. Bobby will be sharing the screen with superstar, Pawan Kalyan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Nargis Fakhri, and Nora Fatehi. Then, Bobby will also play the antagonist in YRF’s spy universe film, Alpha, while Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh will be seen as the protagonists. This YRF film is speculated to be released around Christmas. Along with these, Bobby Deol also might be seen in Animal Park, even though his character was killed in the climax. According to a Rediff report, the makers will revive the character, as it became a major hit with the audience in Animal.
