Actor Smriti Irani on Monday officially announced her return to the reboot of the iconic series ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. Irani, who will be reprising her role as Tulsi Virani, shared her excitement and the significance of this comeback. She expressed that the show was a pivotal part of her life, offering not just commercial success but a deep connection with countless households across India.
In an official statement, Irani noted, “Some journeys come full circle—not for nostalgia, but for purpose.” She emphasised that returning to ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ is not merely stepping back into a role but reconnecting with a story that has significantly shaped Indian television and her own life. “It gave me more than commercial success – it gave me a connection with millions of homes, a place in the emotional fabric of a generation,” she stated.
Reflecting on her 25-year journey with the show, Irani shared, “In the 25 years since, I’ve straddled two powerful platforms – media and public policy – each with its own impact, each demanding a different kind of commitment.” Her roles in both arenas have allowed her to engage with diverse audiences and challenges, further enriching her career and personal growth.
Irani’s decision to return is driven by her belief in the transformative power of storytelling. “Today, I stand at a crossroads where experience meets emotion, and creativity meets conviction,” she remarked. Irani aims to use this platform not just as an actor but as someone who sees storytelling as a means to inspire change, preserve culture, and build empathy.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Irani expressed her hopes of honouring the legacy of ‘Kyunki’ while contributing to the empowerment of India’s creative industries. “In contributing to this next chapter, I hope to honour the legacy of ‘Kyunki’ – and help shape a future where India’s creative industries aren’t just celebrated, but truly empowered,” she declared, setting a visionary agenda for her return.
Earlier in the day, Irani’s first look as Tulsi Virani from the reboot of ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ went viral on social media. The actor could be seen wearing a Banarasi saree with traditional jewellery. She also tied her hair in a side-parted bun – the style she originally flaunted in the episodes of the show 17 years ago.
Ekta Kapoor, the producer of the show, is yet to officially announce the reboot. It is believed that many actors from the original show, including Amar Upadhyay, Apara Mehta, Komolika Guha Thakurta, and Shakti Anand, among others, are set to reprise their popular characters.
