The much awaited Tamil web series, The Good Wife which premiered on JioHotstar on July 4, 2025, is directed by Revathy and the show stars Priyamani in the lead role alongside Sampath Raj. This Tamil series is an adaptation of the American series with the same name and the web series tries to mix legal drama with personal lives. While a few appreciated Priyamani’s performances, some also felt that it lacked depth.
Review of the Tamil series, The Good Wife
The web series is receiving mixed reactions from viewers. The one thing that is being appreciated widely is the amazing performance of Priyamani. She is being considered the strongest aspect of this series. Many viewers are loving her powerful acting, particularly in emotional breakdown scenes and courtroom sequences. However, some viewers also felt that the supporting cast, including Sampath Raj and Aari Arujunan could have been given more significant roles as it would have helped create a stronger emotional pull. Some viewers also expressed disappointment by calling the show predictable.
Apart from acting, the direction of Revathy is getting mixed reactions. While she was successful in showing the emotional journey, some felt that it lacked depth. Critics believed that the Tamil adaptation could not completely capture the political and legal tensions. It lacked a bit of depth and can look unrealistic. The screenplay looked uneven, as at times a certain episode seems to be dragged while another seems to be rushing.
The plot of the Tamil web series, The Good Wife
The Good Wife follows the character ‘Tarunika’ (played by Priyamani), who is a homemaker and former lawyer who is forced to go back into being a lawyer when her husband gets stuck in a scandal. As ‘Tarunika’ returns to the courtroom, she is supposed to balance her responsibilities as a mother, wife and a professional lawyer. The series focuses on her emotional journey like rebuilding her self-respect, facing courtroom battles and finding her identity in a male-dominated world. Through immense courage, Tarunika finds strength in finding her role both at home and in the legal world.

Priyamani is a well-known Indian actress who has worked in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. She started getting love for her powerful performances in films like Paruthiveeran and Raam. For the film, Paruthiveeran she also won a National Film Award for Best Actress in 2008. Over the years, she has built a strong reputation for herself.
Personally, Priyamani was born as Priya Vasudev Mani Iyer on June 4, 1984, in Bangalore and she pursued a BA in Psychology. In 2017, she got married to Mustafa Raj, an event manager-turned-filmmaker, whom she met during an IPL match. Their interfaith marriage bought a lot of backlash and false love jihad accusations. Even though the couple kept their marriage, some trolls even suggested their future children would join ISIS. Despite all the harsh trolling, she continues to embrace her Hindu faith while respecting her husband’s faith.

She shifted towards direction in 2002 with Mitr-My Friend, a National Award winning debut. Later, she did films like Phir Milenge and Saalam Venky. The Good Wife marks her first Tamil web series.
