The British Grand Prix is more than just a race, it’s a celebration of Formula One history. The race marks the midpoint of the 2025 F1 season as the 12th race of the year. Set to take place from July 4 to July 6, the British Grand Prix will unfold at the iconic Silverstone Circuit, which stretches across 5.891 km (3.660 miles) with 18 turns and 52 laps.

Home to legendary corners like Copse, Maggots, and Becketts, the circuit offers one of the fastest and most technical layouts on the calendar. It’s also the base for teams like McLaren, Mercedes, Aston Martin, and Williams.

This year’s race is special for British drivers Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, and George Russell and rookie Oliver Bearman who will race in front of passionate home fans.

Hamilton, now driving for Ferrari, has won here nine times more than anyone else. The fastest lap at Silverstone, however, belongs to his rival Max Verstappen 1:27.097 in 2020. Last year’s race was a wet-weather race that saw Hamilton narrowly beat Verstappen by 1.4 seconds, with Norris claiming third.

The 2023 edition remains the last completely dry British GP, and with rain once again in the forecast, a rain race could be in store.

This year Red Bull will come to Silverstone hoping to bounce back from a disastrous Austrian Grand Prix, where Verstappen crashed out on Lap 1 following contact with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli.

Yuki Tsunoda endured a nightmare at the Austrian Grand Prix as well, finishing last and with 2 penalty points.

However, the RB21 is expected to perform well on the Silverstone layout, and with Verstappen’s reputation as a wet-weather specialist, the Dutchman could be a serious threat if the skies open up.

Mercedes are also chasing redemption with Kimi Antonelli, who has been issued a three place grid penalty for his involvement in Verstappen’s crash. And his team mate George Russell who lacked pace in Austria, and finished fifth, but both drivers will look to bounce back at their teams home Grand Prix.

Ferrari showcased a promising performance in Austria but could face challenges on Silverstone’s high-speed corners due to balance issues. For Hamilton, this is a shot at redemption on home soil and possibly his first win in red after his last victory in Belgium 2024.

McLaren, meanwhile, look strong heading into the weekend. with Norris and Piastri consistently finishing near the top and Norris enjoying massive crowd support, a win for the Brit could mark back-to-back victories and keep the championship fight alive.

Williams and Aston Martin, both home teams, will be looking for points. Williams had a nightmare in Austria, with Sainz’s car catching fire and Albon retiring early, converting into a double DNF.

While Aston Martin who have been performing inconsistent, will be aiming to make the most of home support.

In the past two years, P1, P2, and P3 at Silverstone have rotated among Hamilton, Verstappen, and Norris with Oscar Piastri consistently finishing P4. As McLaren drivers fighting for the championship, Hamilton in a new team and Mercedes hunt for a comeback, the question remains.

Will Silverstone witness new faces on the podium this year, or will history repeat Hamilton, Norris and Verstappen again on the podium with Piastri once again settling for fourth?
