In a recent conversation with Mirchi Plus, music composer Amaal Mallik made some striking observations about the inner workings of the Hindi film industry. Candid and unfiltered, Mallik reflected on the persistent power dynamics and how they impact outsiders, particularly referencing actors like Kartik Aaryan and the late Sushant Singh Rajput.

    “Kartik Aaryan Also Faces Resistance”

Addressing the challenges faced by self-made actors, Amaal said, “He [Kartik Aaryan] is also a newcomer who has come in and done his bit. Even he has 100 people trying to bring him down. Power plays happen here. Big producers, big actors — they all engage in it.” He suggested that even though Kartik has gained popularity, there are still forces within the industry attempting to sideline him, echoing a pattern often discussed in the aftermath of similar struggles faced by others.

On the Industry’s Impact on Mental Well-being

Amaal didn’t hold back from speaking about the emotional toll the industry can take. “This industry has done something to people’s minds or their souls. Or the people within it have demoralised them. When the truth came out, public sentiment shifted — they said, ‘Screw these guys, these people are toxic,’” he remarked.

He highlighted that Bollywood’s ecosystem can be isolating and intense, often pushing individuals to their breaking point. “The public has understood the reality of this industry. It is so dark that people have lost their lives,” he added.

    Remembering Sushant Singh Rajput

Mallik’s comments also brought back memories of Sushant Singh Rajput, whose death in June 2020 shocked the nation. “Sushant Singh Rajput couldn’t handle it. Whatever happened to him — some say it was murder, others say suicide — but the man is gone,” he said.

The singer-composer went on to say that Sushant’s demise led to an unprecedented backlash against Bollywood. “The industry has never faced public criticism like that before. His death took everything away from these people. And rightly so — they deserve to see this downfall. A good man was wronged.”

He drew a parallel between Sushant and Kartik, suggesting that while the latter is facing similar resistance, he continues to persevere. “Even with all these problems, Kartik dances and smiles his way through it,” he concluded.

Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide on June 14, 2020, at the age of 34. The postmortem report cited asphyxia due to hanging as the cause of death, with no signs of foul play. His passing reignited long-standing debates around nepotism, mental health, and the exclusionary culture within Bollywood.
