In another major upset of the tournament, Jack Draper crashed out of the ongoing Wimbledon 2025 after losing to Marin Cilic, who took two hours and 39 minutes to win the match 6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in two hours and 39 minutes.

After enduring back-to-back knee surgeries in 2023 and 2024, Cilic’s run to the third round of a Slam—his first since 2022—along with a 38th career top-10 win (and second this year), is a testament to his resilience and love for the game at 36 years old.

Draper, on the other hand, expressed disappointment with his performances on grass this season. Prior to Wimbledon, he competed at the HSBC Championships, where he was defeated in the semifinals by Jiri Lehecka.

“I’ve been really disappointed with the way my games been on the grass this year. I wasn’t feeling too great at Queens. I don’t know how I made the semis there and gave myself a chance of making the final. Because it highlighted to me this year I really struggled on the grass,” Draper said.

    Jannik Sinner dominant

Jannik Sinner advanced to the third round of the 2025 Wimbledon men’s singles after defeating Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in straight sets on Centre Court.

On Thursday, July 3, the World No. 1 took just an hour and 40 minutes to claim a convincing 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 victory, securing his place in the Round of 32 at the All England Club for the fifth time.

Sinner dominated the match, breaking Vukic’s serve six times. Although Vukic had four opportunities to break back, he was unable to convert any of them. Sinner struck 38 winners, while Vukic was hampered by 21 unforced errors.

After the match, Sinner praised Vukic’s serving and noted his own consistency from the baseline.

“I’m very happy today. Playing against him is very very difficult. Huge serve. I tried to return as many balls as possible. Trying to be solid on the baseline. I struggled a bit to close it out. But I’m very happy. Centre court is such a special location,” Sinner said after the match.

“Thanks everyone for staying. I know it was a long day. Every match is difficult so I’m happy to be in the next round,” Sinner added.

He will next be up against Spain’s Pedro Martinez, who defeated Mariono Navone 7-5, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) in the second round.

    Swiatek, Balaji advance

In women’s singles, Iga Swiatek came from a set down to defeat American Caty McNally 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 on Centre Court. Swiatek will next face Danielle Collins, who secured a straightforward 6-4, 6-1 win over Veronika Erjavec.

Among Indian players, N. Sriram Balaji progressed to the second round of the men’s doubles. Partnering with Mexico’s Miguel Reyes-Varela, the duo defeated Learner Tien and Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round.

They will next take on Spain’s Marcel Granollers and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos in the second round.
