In a shocking double murder in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, the blood-soaked bodies of Manish Bhaduri, 38, and his partner Aparna Majhi, 32, were discovered in a rented house in the Sitaram Bagan area of Baidyabati on Wednesday.

Police said both victims bore multiple injuries inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon, with several deep wounds found on the outer parts of their bodies. Initial investigation suggests that the attack was carried out by an outsider. The motive and identity of the killer remain unclear.

According to Arnab Biswas, DCP of Shrirampur Zone, Chandannagar Police Commissionerate, Aparna had been living in the house with Manish for the past few years following her divorce nearly five years ago. The house was located in a quiet lane of the Sitaram Bagan area, and the couple had been living together without any known disputes reported by neighbours.

The area has been cordoned off, and forensic experts have been called in to examine the crime scene. Police have started questioning local residents to gather clues and have sent both bodies for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death.

Manish was employed at a factory near Delhi Road, while Aparna worked as a domestic help in nearby houses. Both were said to be living a modest life, and neighbours expressed shock over the brutal nature of the killings.

Investigators are now trying to piece together the sequence of events and are exploring possible motives, including personal enmity, robbery, or revenge. Further leads are expected once the forensic and autopsy reports are in.
