Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in federal detention following a split jury verdict in his celebrity-studded trial.

On Wednesday, US District Judge Arun Subramanian denied Combs’ request for bond before sentencing, citing ample evidence of violent behaviour.

“It is impossible for the defendant to demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that he poses no danger,” Subramanian said.

According to The New York Times, “the judge proposed a sentencing for October, but he indicated that he would be open to other suggestions.”

Combs was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges involving singer Cassie Ventura and another woman known as Jane. However, the jury found him guilty on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution.

For all charges, Combs could have faced life in prison. He now faces a potential 10-year sentence.

EMOTIONAL REACTION IN COURTROOM

After the verdict, Combs was observed praying before standing and saying to supporters, “I’m gonna be home soon,” he said, smiling and clasping his hands. “I love you. Thank you, I love you.”

Despite his not-guilty plea on all counts, prosecutors labelled him an ongoing danger to society.

They cited Jane’s testimony describing physical abuse and coercion into sexual acts, even while Combs knew he was under federal scrutiny.

The seven-week trial outlined claims that Combs arranged cocaine-fueled group sex sessions over two decades, which he allegedly watched or recorded.

Prosecutors argued the acts constituted sex trafficking, though jurors apparently did not find sufficient evidence linking the women’s participation to criminal coercion.

Combs, once a central figure in modern hip-hop, still faces multiple civil lawsuits related to abuse allegations.
