The Enforcement Directorate (ED) told a Delhi court on Wednesday that the Congress, at the behest of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul, wanted to usurp assets worth Rs 2,000 crore of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which publishes the National Herald newspaper.
The ED, represented by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, said a conspiracy was hatched to form Young Indian, in which Sonia and Rahul held 76% shares, to siphon off the assets of AJL for a Rs 90 crore loan taken from Congress.
“AJL was not making a profit, but it had large assets (Rs 2,000 crore). They were finding it difficult to manage their daily affairs. Thus, a 90 crore loan was taken from the Congress,” the ASG said.
“The Congress wanted to usurp this company. The conspiracy was the creation of Young India to siphon away Rs 2,000 crore in exchange for a 90 crore loan. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi wanted to take over this company,” he further said.
