TV viewers, may we please direct your attention back to USA Network. The cable channel’s slate of scripted originals has been conspicuously sparse, but The Rainmaker could be the start of a new era.
Based on a John Grisham novel, The Rainmaker stars Milo Callaghan as a recent law school grad, Lana Parilla as his new boss, and John Slattery and Madison Iseman as their legal opponents on a conspiracy-ridden case.
And The Rainmaker seemingly marks a return to the “blue sky” programming that once made USA the No. 1 basic-cable channel; think character-driven procedurals with sunny dispositions and sunnier locales, such as White Collar and Psych.
Both of those shows rank among our favorite USA originals, but our No. 1 pick swapped comedic, blue-sky entertainment for dark, murky drama. See our ranking of the best USA Network shows below.
