Ronnie Fieg and Kith typically employ a more muted approach to color for their New Balance collaborations, allowing premium materials and tasteful details to be the focal points, but their next project comes as a surprise in its vibrancy.
Fieg posted a preview to his Instagram story of the Kith x New Balance 204L in three colorways, two of which are particularly bright. Pink and orange variants both come with radiant two-tone uppers, deviating in their respective colors only for their metallic silver “N” logos. A third colorway, which has already leaked previously, then utilizes two shades of mint green while also incorporating gray for a more complex and toned down scheme.
Keeping in line with Kith’s touch, the brand’s logo can only be seen in a small application on the right tongue, as well as the lateral heel counter.
While leaks have been abound for the 204L, which also appeared in Auralee’s Paris Fashion Week show last week, still little is known about the thin-soled silhouette. While maintaining the hallmarks of 2000s running shoes for its upper, it’s also drawn comparisons to Miu Miu’s 530 collaborations and is primed to capitalize on the low-profile sneaker trend.
Kith’s collaboration on the 204L could very well usher in the debut for the model.
Just last month, New Balance launched the Abzorb 2000, a diametric model with a massive sole unit that should help it carry a similar appeal to the hit 9060. Paul Kaseumsouk, general manager of lifestyle inline and speed at New Balance, told Footwear News of the new sneaker: “We wanted something that felt futuristic and progressive but still rooted in our DNA. It’s about evolving the brand’s aesthetic without losing what makes it distinct. You can still find subtle nods to our heritage in the detailing and craftsmanship, but the overall design was meant to break the mold and signal a bold step forward.”
A release date has yet to be announced for the Kith x New Balance 204L, but it will likely release soon based on Fieg’s rollout patterns. Footwear News will keep you abreast of any updates.
